Ceramic Coating Explained

More Durable Than Traditional Wax

Traditional wax provides temporary surface protection. Ceramic coating creates a more durable protective layer over properly prepared paint, providing longer-lasting gloss and stronger water-repelling performance.

The slicker surface helps dirt, rainwater, and ordinary road contamination release more easily during washing. This does not mean the vehicle becomes maintenance-free, but proper cleaning generally becomes easier.

South Florida vehicles regularly face intense sunlight, heat, humidity, heavy rain, insects, tree sap, bird droppings, salt air, and road contamination. Ceramic coating helps protect the finish, but contaminants should still be removed promptly.

Honest protection

Ceramic coating does not make paint scratch-proof, chip-proof, or water-spot-proof. Its primary advantages are longer-lasting environmental protection, improved gloss, water repellency, and easier maintenance.

Proper Preparation

What Your Coating Service Includes

Ceramic coating should never be applied over dirt, bonded contamination, polishing oils, or an improperly prepared surface. We prepare the exterior so the coating can bond correctly.

  1. 01
    Exterior wash and preparation

The vehicle is thoroughly washed to remove loose dirt, traffic film, and ordinary surface contamination.

  2. 02
    Wheels and tires cleaned

Wheel faces, tires, and accessible exterior areas are cleaned as part of the preparation process.

  3. 03
    Chemical decontamination

Iron and fallout removers are used when needed to loosen bonded metallic contamination.

  4. 04
    Mechanical decontamination

Clay treatment is performed when necessary to remove remaining bonded contamination from the paint.

  5. 05
    Surface preparation

The paint is inspected and wiped down to remove residue that could interfere with coating adhesion.

  6. 06
    Professional coating application

The selected coating is carefully applied, leveled, and inspected panel by panel.

Separate Service

Ceramic Coating Does Not Remove Paint Defects

Ceramic coating protects the condition of the surface underneath it. It does not remove swirls, oxidation, haze, sanding marks, scratches, or water-spot damage.

When the paint needs improvement, we may recommend a paint enhancement or paint correction before the coating is applied. This is always priced separately.

Light swirls or dullness A paint enhancement may be enough.
Moderate paint defects A one-step correction may be recommended.
Heavier defects Additional correction stages may be required.
New vehicles Paint is still inspected before coating.

Benefits

Why Vehicle Owners Choose Ceramic Coating

Ceramic coating is designed for customers who want stronger, longer-lasting protection without relying only on short-term wax.

01 — GLOSS

Enhanced Appearance

Ceramic coating can increase the paint’s gloss, depth, and reflectivity when applied to a properly prepared surface.

02 — WATER

Hydrophobic Performance

Water forms tighter beads and moves more easily from the coated surface, helping simplify routine washing and drying.

03 — MAINTENANCE

Easier Cleaning

Dirt and road grime generally have a harder time gripping the slick coated surface, making proper maintenance more manageable.

04 — DURABILITY

Longer-Term Protection

Depending on the coating selected and how the vehicle is maintained, protection can last several years.

Clear Expectations

What Ceramic Coating Actually Does

What It Helps With

  • Improves gloss and surface slickness
  • Provides longer-lasting protection than traditional wax
  • Makes ordinary dirt and road grime easier to remove
  • Provides strong water-repelling performance
  • Helps protect against environmental contamination
  • Makes routine exterior maintenance more manageable

What It Does Not Do

  • It does not make paint scratch-proof
  • It does not stop rock chips or dents
  • It does not remove existing swirls or oxidation
  • It does not eliminate the need for washing
  • It does not prevent every water spot
  • It does not replace proper vehicle maintenance

Our Process

Preparation Before Protection

The coating itself is only one part of the job. Inspection and proper surface preparation are essential to the final appearance and durability.

STEP 01
Vehicle Inspection
We review vehicle size, paint condition, contamination, visible defects, and the customer’s protection goals.
STEP 02
Exterior Cleaning
The exterior, wheels, tires, and accessible areas are cleaned before decontamination begins.
STEP 03
Decontamination
Chemical and mechanical decontamination are performed as needed to leave the paint smooth and properly prepared.
STEP 04
Paint Preparation
The surface is inspected and prepared for coating. Paint correction, when approved, is completed before this final preparation.
STEP 05
Coating Application
The selected ceramic coating is applied and leveled carefully, section by section.
STEP 06
Final Inspection
The vehicle is inspected for proper application, finish quality, and any areas that need final attention.

Aftercare

Protect the Protection

Coating longevity depends heavily on how the vehicle is washed, stored, driven, and maintained after application.

Recommended Care

Use safe washing methods, clean towels, proper wash products, and regular maintenance to reduce unnecessary wear.

Bird droppings, insects, tree sap, mineral deposits, and other harsh contamination should be removed as soon as reasonably possible.

Real-World Durability

Three-, five-, and ten-year ratings represent the available coating options—not a promise that every vehicle will perform identically under every condition.

Mileage, outdoor storage, harsh washing, automatic car washes, neglect, and environmental exposure can reduce coating performance.

Common Questions

Ceramic Coating FAQ

How much does ceramic coating cost?
Three-year protection starts at $600, five-year protection starts at $1,200, and ten-year protection starts at $1,800. Final pricing depends on vehicle size, paint condition, contamination, preparation requirements, and the selected coating.
Does ceramic coating include paint correction?
No. Paint correction is a separate service. When the paint has swirls, oxidation, haze, scratches, or water-spot damage, we may recommend paint correction before applying the coating.
How long does ceramic coating last?
We offer coating options rated for up to three, five, or ten years. Actual durability depends on maintenance, washing methods, storage, mileage, environmental exposure, and overall vehicle use.
Will ceramic coating stop scratches and rock chips?
No. Ceramic coating is not paint-protection film. It does not make paint scratch-proof and cannot prevent rock chips, dents, or every form of physical damage.
Is ceramic coating better than wax?
Ceramic coating generally provides longer-lasting protection, stronger water-repelling performance, and easier maintenance. Wax remains a good temporary protection option for vehicles that do not need a multi-year coating.
Can you coat a brand-new vehicle?
Yes. However, even new vehicles should be inspected. Some arrive with light swirls, dealership wash marks, rail dust, transportation contamination, or other defects that may need attention first.
Do you come to the customer?
Yes. Xtreme Pro Detailers provides mobile ceramic-coating services throughout qualifying areas of Miami-Dade and Broward.
